THESIS FINAL REPORT

SUMMARY

This final report reviews previous studies and concludes a year long analysis and redesign of the building systems that make up The Caribbean Hotel.  Goals and design objectives which have influenced the design and decision making throughout this project include improving energy performance, reducing system operating costs, and promoting sustainability.  The final redesigns were completed with the purpose of exploring ways to achieve the design goals.

The mechanical system, which was originally served by air-cooled chillers, was redesigned to a water-cooled chiller plant that is more efficient and keeps more equipment indoors so it is out of the damaging salty air of the Caribbean.  This redesign is compared side-by-side to the original design to demonstrate key difference in cost, energy usage, and several other factors.  Next, a solar panel system was designed to handle to load of the building energy usage required to serve this system.  Finally, a structural analysis was performed in order to ensure the building can support the solar panels located on the roof of the hotel.

Thank you to all the professionals, faculty, friends, and family who have helped make this project possible and successful.
